Meta is turning up the star power for its AI assistants by approaching big names like Awkwafina, Keegan-Michael Key, and Judi Dench to lend their voices to MetaAI. According to a Bloomberg report, Meta is racing to finalize these deals in time for the Meta Connect conference in September.
These celebrity voices could become part of Meta's digital assistant product, MetaAI, and might appear across Meta's platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses. The New York Times suggests that Meta is negotiating with top Hollywood talent agencies and could offer actors millions of dollars for their voices. These contracts are likely to be temporary, with options for renewal.
Meta has a history with celebrity AI, having previously featured them in discontinued chatbots from last year's Connect. This approach isn't entirely new—Waze has used celebrity voices for navigation, and there was even a time you could get Samuel L. Jackson to interact with you via Alexa.
While past implementations might have felt like novelties, generative AI technology today offers more convincing human-like voices. Imagine Awkwafina’s unique voice guiding you through your day or Judi Dench providing details about landmarks through Meta Ray-Bans. The idea of hearing from these familiar voices adds an engaging twist to AI interactions.
Meta has yet to confirm these reports, but if true, we might soon be interacting with AI in a whole new, star-studded way. What do you think? Would you like to have a celebrity voice as your digital assistant?
