Nvidia has reportedly informed Microsoft and another cloud provider that its highly anticipated “Blackwell” B200 AI chips will be delayed by at least three months. According to The Information, a design flaw discovered late in the production process caused the delay.
These B200 chips are the successors to the popular H100 chips, which are vital in powering AI clouds and contributing to Nvidia’s massive market value. Despite this setback, Nvidia expects to ramp up production in the second half of the year, with large-scale shipments now pushed to Q1 next year.
Nvidia is conducting new test runs with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company to address the issue.
Nvidia spokesperson John Rizzo stated, “Beyond that, we don’t comment on rumors.”
Microsoft, Google, and Meta have collectively ordered tens of billions of dollars worth of these new chips. The delay marks a significant shift for Nvidia, which aims to introduce new AI chips annually.
