Apple is facing backlash over its latest ad, “OOO (Out of Office),” which has been criticized for its outdated and stereotypical portrayal of Thailand. The ad, part of the Underdogs comedy series, depicted Thailand in a way that many locals and lawmakers felt misrepresented the country’s modern vibrancy.

The ad, which debuted in mid-July, was criticized for using sepia filters and outdated imagery that painted Thailand as underdeveloped. Apple has since pulled the ad and issued an apology, stating their intent was to celebrate Thailand’s culture, not to offend. The ad has been removed from all Apple YouTube channels, but you can still catch it in this report by Campaign.

In response to the criticism, Thai lawmaker Sattra Sripan has urged citizens to reconsider their use of Apple products, while Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin remains optimistic about Apple’s future investments in the country.

This isn’t the first time Apple has faced such criticism; earlier this year, the “Crush” iPad Pro ad was also pulled after receiving negative feedback from the creative community.
