Google has introduced a major update to its Sheets app, simplifying the process of creating well-organized tables. Previously, users had to go through multiple steps to format and sort data within a spreadsheet. With this latest feature, setting up tables has become faster and more intuitive.
Rolling out gradually, the update adds "intelligent suggestions" for table creation. Now, when selecting data that can be converted into a table, a “+” button appears, allowing users to format the data instantly. This includes applying alternating colors and creating sortable, filterable headers with just one click. This builds on a feature released in May, which initially made it easier to add tables to spreadsheets.
In addition to the one-click table feature, Google Sheets now offers quick row and column additions. Simply hover your cursor over the left or right edge of a table to insert new rows or columns effortlessly. Moreover, the platform can now automatically categorize column data, formatting it appropriately based on content. For example, currency data gets a dollar sign, while dates display in a consistent format.
These improvements significantly reduce the time and effort required to manage data in Google Sheets. Previously, users had to manually apply these formats, making the process tedious. Now, creating well-organized, functional tables is almost instant, allowing users to focus on their data analysis rather than formatting.
Overall, Google’s enhancements to Sheets have made working with data more accessible and less time-consuming, especially for those who frequently deal with large datasets.
