TikTok is now offering users more control over the type of content they see on their For You Page (FYP). With the latest update, users can fine-tune their content preferences by adjusting sliders for specific topics such as "current affairs," "creative arts," "humor," and more. This new feature is accessible under the "Content preferences" section within "Settings and Privacy."

The sliders are initially set to a default position, allowing users to tweak them according to their interests. This enhancement offers a glimpse into how TikTok's algorithm categorizes content, with topics like "dance" having their own distinct category, reflecting TikTok's origins as a platform centered around dance content.

Over time, TikTok has introduced various features to help users have more control over their FYP experience. These include the "not interested" button, the ability to block specific keywords or hashtags, and a tool for resetting the FYP entirely. However, the effectiveness of these controls remains uncertain, as previous research on similar tools, like YouTube's "dislike" button, suggests that content recommendation systems may not always strictly follow user inputs.

This new customization option on TikTok represents the platform's ongoing efforts to balance user control with the unpredictability of its powerful recommendation algorithm.
