Peak Design, a well-known name in the world of high-quality backpacks, has launched its first new bag collection in five years. The San Francisco-based company introduces the "Outdoor" line, designed to be used in environments beyond the urban landscape. These backpacks and slings come equipped with Peak Design’s most advanced soft-goods technology, featuring multiple adjustment points tailored for different body types and load requirements. They are also compatible with the brand’s modular packing cubes, making it easy to organize and access gear, whether it's camera equipment, clothing, or other essentials.
According to Peak Design’s founder and CEO, Peter Dering, the Outdoor Line represents the culmination of years of expertise in bag design and serves as a tribute to the company’s most loyal customers who have long desired a true outdoor-focused range.
The Outdoor Backpack comes in two sizes: a 45-liter model designed for heavy loads and extended trips, and a more compact 25-liter version suited for shorter outings. Both versions offer quick access through a roll-top opening and can be fully unzipped from the back, allowing for easy packing and full visibility of the contents. The backpacks include sleeves for laptops and hydration packs, and boast weather-resistant and slash-proof construction, with an optional Rain Fly for added protection. Despite their robust features, the bags are designed to offer superior comfort with less bulk compared to other backpacks on the market.
Weighing in at 3.97 pounds for the 45-liter model and 2.54 pounds for the 25-liter version, these backpacks are slightly heavier than traditional hiking backpacks of similar capacity. However, they offer enhanced durability and features that make them ideal for photographers and adventurers who need to carry specialized equipment. The 45-liter version also comes with a removable hip belt, which is available as an add-on for the 25-liter model.
Both sizes are available in black, white, and a purple hue called "Eclipse." The backpacks are compatible with Peak Design’s camera and packing cubes, which are available in various sizes and materials, catering to different needs like weight reduction or weather resistance.
In addition to the backpacks, Peak Design has introduced Outdoor Slings in 7-liter and 2-liter sizes. These slings can quickly switch from crossbody to waist bags and can even be worn on the chest when attached to the shoulder straps of the Outdoor Backpacks. The larger 7-liter sling features gear loops for additional storage and can fit the smallest camera cubes from Peak Design.
As expected from a brand with a history in crowdfunding, the new Outdoor line is launching exclusively on Kickstarter, with the campaign running until October 15th. Backers can expect to receive their bags by January 2025, with discounts of up to 25% off retail prices. The bags will also be available on Peak Design’s website, Amazon, and other retailers by late November 2024.
Here are the retail prices for the Outdoor Line:
- Outdoor Backpack 45L: $329.95 (Rain Fly: $29.95)

When considering backing a crowdfunding project, it's important to evaluate the company’s claims and track record. Peak Design’s experience with Kickstarter and product delivery may offer some assurance, but as with any crowdfunded product, there is always a risk of delays or unmet expectations.
