Nanoleaf has finally introduced its long-awaited smart switch, the Sense Plus, after eight years in the making. Priced at $30, the Sense Plus Smart Wireless "Anywhere" Switch can be preordered now and is set to ship in October. This new device marks a shift for Nanoleaf, as it created a proprietary protocol called Litewave to ensure reliable performance.
The battery-powered Sense Plus allows users to control Nanoleaf’s smart lights wirelessly, managing brightness, turning lights on or off, and even changing colors. Equipped with motion and light sensors, the switch can adjust lighting based on the room's conditions. It doesn’t require wiring and works similarly to switches from other brands like Philips Hue and Lutron Caséta.
The switch features six buttons: on/off, dim/brighten, and two configurable buttons that can be programmed through the Nanoleaf app or integrated with Apple Home and Samsung SmartThings via Matter. This allows users to create customized scenes, such as dimming lights or closing shades with a single press.
Nanoleaf’s Sense Plus relies on both Matter-over-Thread and its own Litewave protocol for wireless communication with all Nanoleaf lights. Litewave ensures a fast and reliable connection, working even without a Thread border router or Matter controller. This approach addresses some of the challenges Nanoleaf faced with Matter, ensuring a smoother user experience.
Nanoleaf’s new smart switch is designed to integrate seamlessly with its lighting system, providing instant control across multiple devices. With its launch, Nanoleaf aims to offer a more reliable and user-friendly solution for smart lighting control.
