Apple has officially unveiled an updated version of the AirPods Max, with the most notable change being the shift from the Lightning port to USB-C. After nearly four years without a hardware update, the new AirPods Max embrace USB-C, aligning with Apple's gradual transition away from its proprietary Lightning connector.

Previously, Apple offered a USB-C charging case for the AirPods Pro 2, allowing users to upgrade their charging capabilities without buying new earbuds. However, AirPods Max users will need to purchase the latest version to take advantage of USB-C.

The new AirPods Max are available for preorder today at the same price as the previous model ($549) and come in five fresh colors: midnight, starlight, blue, orange, and purple. The official release date is set for September 20th.
