Say goodbye to searching for fresh batteries with Hama’s new 8-in-1 universal remote. Set to revolutionize home entertainment, this innovative remote utilizes Exeger’s Powerfoyle solar technology to keep it charged as long as it’s exposed to light.
While Hama hasn’t specified exactly which remotes the new 8-in-1 can replace, it features a solar cell that powers a supercapacitor, eliminating the need for traditional rechargeable batteries. This remote is expected to hit the market in the second quarter of 2025, priced at €29.99 (approximately $33 USD).
Hama is also launching a rival to Samsung’s solar-powered Bluetooth remote, priced at €39.99 (about $47 USD). This version includes all the features of Samsung’s remote, such as voice assistance, but with the solar panel placed on top for easier exposure to light.
Unlike large solar panels meant for direct sunlight, Exeger’s Powerfoyle is designed to work with ambient light from indoor sources like lamps. This flexible solar technology has been used in products like wireless headphones and speakers and is now making its way into remote controls, which require less power.
While other companies like Ambient Photonics have introduced similar solar solutions, Hama’s new universal remote is among the first available directly to consumers, not just bundled with other devices.
