The legal proceedings surrounding the death of 28-year-old Warri musician Oghenemine Ogidi, popularly known as OG Million, have entered a significant phase as five police officers were formally arraigned before the Delta State High Court sitting in Asaba.
The defendants appeared before Justice M. Nduka, where the principal defendant, former Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Usman Nuhu, was charged with murder under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Law (Cap. C21, Vol. 1, Laws of Delta State).
Four other officersβformer ASPs Owoloko Daurou Pamo and Okoh Kelechi, alongside Inspectors Goodluck Kingsley and Omonigho Ahweyevuβwere charged with negligent acts causing harm under Section 344 of the same law.
When the charges were read in court, all five defendants pleaded not guilty.
Following the arraignment, Justice M. Nduka adjourned the matter until July 14, 2026, when the trial is expected to commence. The defendants will remain in custody pending further court proceedings.
The case has attracted considerable public attention, particularly because it is being personally prosecuted by the Attorney-General of Delta State, Hon. Ekemejero Ohwovoriole (SAN). His direct involvement has reinforced public confidence that the prosecution will be conducted diligently and transparently.
According to the prosecution team, the state has assembled a strong case and is committed to ensuring that justice is pursued thoroughly and without unnecessary delays.
The death of OG Million sparked widespread reactions across Delta State and Nigeria, with citizens, civil society groups, and supporters calling for accountability and respect for the rule of law. The arraignment marks an important step in the judicial process, though the court has yet to determine the guilt or innocence of any of the accused persons.
As the trial begins on July 14, many Nigerians will be closely following the proceedings, hoping that the legal process delivers a fair and impartial outcome.
